Is Mineralyte Hydrate+ more effective than rehydrating with just drinking water?
Maintaining a state of hydration is not just about drinking enough water but about maintaining an optimal balance of electrolytes, minerals and trace elements.
This balance is vital for maintaining your health and well-being as it helps transport nutrients into cells, waste out of the body, maintains a healthy nervous and muscular system and many more benefits.
Check out our LEARN page for more information about all the amazing electrolytes, minerals and trace elements and how they benefit our bodies .
For example, Chloride helps to regulate the amount of fluid and types of nutrients going in and out of the cells. It also maintains proper pH levels, stimulates stomach acid needed for digestion, stimulates the action of nerve and muscle cells, and facilitates the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide within cells.
Where would be with out this amazing electrolyte!
Mineralyte Hydrate + contains 22 essential electrolytes, minerals and trace elements for hydration health and wellbeing . No sugar No sweeteners and no preservatives at all!
How does Mineralyte Hydrate +work?
Mineralyte Hydrate + uses a precise balance of electrolytes, minerals and trace elements ( similar to our blood plasma) including bicarbonates to activate rapid hydration.
This allows your body to absorb water and electrolytes into your bloodstream sooner than just drinking water so you recover quicker from dehydration.

How do I take Mineralyte Hydrate +?
Mineralyte Hydrate +is rapid hydration drops which you can add to any drink ( approx 20 drops or 2ml per 500ml drink of any choice ) or ready to drink hydration .
I thought I needed sugar for rapid hydration.
No. Independent research proves that sodium is absorbed into the body in the small intestine (ileum) without sugar and bicarbonates speed up the absorption of sodium in another part of the small intestine ( jejunum ) at a similar rate as sugar .
So now with our unique formula you can have your electrolytes without sugar! And feel better !
(Effect of Bicarbonate on Sodium Absorption by the Human Jejunum G. E. SLADEN & A. M. DAWSON 20 April 1968 ,
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) (1968 Apr;47(4):884-900. The mechanisms of sodium absorption in the human small intestine J S Fordtran, F C Rector Jr, N W
Carter).
There are also other cotransporters of electrolytes in the body such as…
The Na–K–Cl cotransporter ( NKCC) is a transport protein that aids in the secondary active
transport of sodium, potassium and chloride into cells. (Wikipedia).
Another mechanism is via an active, linked sodium–hydrogen exchanger. The active sodium/hydrogen pumps cause sodium to be absorbed into the cells (enterocytes) lining the gut with the sodium that has moved into the cells then actively pumped from epithelial cells into the circulation via the sodium/potassium ATPase located in the basolateral membrane.
( Pathophysiology of diarrhoea L.A. Whyte, H.R. Jenkins, in Paediatrics and Child Health, 2012
Butyrate is also a co transporter of sodium produced by microbial fermentation in the large intestine of humans and animals. The absorption of butyrate has been shown to promote the absorption of sodium, potassium, and water, the effects that give it antidiarrheal properties (Ruppin et al., 1980).
So why do we even have glucose in with our electrolytes?
In 1961 Dr Kellog Crane discovered the sodium glucose transporter theory which is that glucose may speed up the absorption of sodium in the small intestine. This was developed for life threatening diarrhoea such as Cholera in developing countries.
This toxin (Cholera) causes the body to secrete enormous amounts of water, leading to severe diarrhoea and a rapid loss of fluids and electrolytes.
Normally we secrete 2000–3000 milligrams of sodium per day into the intestinal lumen (small intestine) . Nearly all of this is reabsorbed so that sodium levels in the body remains constant. But during cholera or severe life-threatening cases of diarrhoea the sodium-rich intestinal secretions are lost before they can be reabsorbed(Wikipedia)
This is why oral rehydration solutions were developed in the first place There are many levels of dehydration. This one is extreme and dangerous and most
people in Australia will never encounter cholera unless they travel to developing countries.
Does Mineralyte Hydrate + contain sugar or sweeteners?
No
Do we need large amounts of sodium in our hydration?
NO.Research shows that supplemental sodium is unnecessary to maintain appropriate hydration during prolonged exercise in the heat. Sodium deficiency resulting from low dietary intake does not normally occur even among those existing on very low sodium diets. Even relatively heavy sweating does not normally create a need to provide salt supplements
because the human body’s mechanisms for conserving salt are very efficient (Conn, 1949 and Gothberg et al 1983).
Furthermore, we found that arbitrary sodium ingestion during endurance exercise does not improve endurance performance compared to no sodium intake in temperate ambient conditions. (Impact of Sodium Ingestion During Exercise on Endurance
Performance: A Systematic Review, 2018, Alan J. McCubbin* , Ricardo J.S. Costa)
Some conditions such as trauma, renal disease, chronic diarrhoea (loose
stools regularly for more than two weeks or cholera) may produce an inability
to retain sodium, and these conditions require medical attention. Also, extreme
conditions of persistent heavy sweating may result in the body being depleted of sodium
(Gothberget al,1983 and Martin D Hoffman 1 , Kristin J Stuempfle , pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, 2016)
